I was honoured to exhibit in the ‘Feathered’ Open Art Prize Exhibition at Spiral Gallery in Bega. It was a special occasion, the first time I had shown my work in my new home region, the Far South Coast of NSW. I was doubly honoured and bowled over to be awarded first prize by artist Sue Chancellor with my work Avia. A big thank you to the team at Spiral.

Janna Ferris, Amy Kennedy, Sarah Murray, Sarah Ormonde
Old Customs House, Fremantle, Western Australia
Part of WEDGE 25 Australian Ceramics Triennale, Fremantle
An exhibition by four makers living and working on Yuin Country on the Far South Coast of NSW. From emerging to mid-career to established, the distinct work of Ferris, Ormonde, Murray, and Kennedy explores themes of landscape, domesticity, and materiality. These diverse works extoll their efforts, knowledge, craftsmanship, and ingenuity in not only their works but also their striving to live a creative life and all that this entails.
Though remote, the Far South Coast is a place where artists have visited and made their homes for decades. The artist community is strong here. This exhibition is a view into some of the current ceramic work being created in this region.

Spotted at The National Gallery of Victoria
At the end of my weekly yoga class, two friends approached me to let me know they had seen my work on display at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Really, mine? I was doubtful.
Not in Melbourne, I sent my family to investigate
They were right.
The National Gallery of Victoria acquired these two works through the donation of a generous philanthropist, and it is a thrill to see them on display alongside a beautiful and diverse collection of Australian ceramics.

Artisans in the Garden, Sydney
It was a highlight of 2024 to be invited to exhibit as part of Artisans in the Garden at The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, October / November. Sincere thanks to Pam, Peta, Tor, Lily and the many organisers and volunteers involved. I exhibited alongside a number of artists I know and have worked with. You will see in the images below a striking orange totem, that has been created by artist Jo Norton and beautiful vessels by Sarah Ormonde.

Wandering within an accumulation of short lines
14 December 2021 - 22 January 2022
MEMBERS VITRINE GALLERY, CRAFT VICTORIA, MELBOURNE
In wandering within an accumulation of short lines Ariel Gout and Amy Kennedy will create a dialogue between their respective works - ink on paper and ceramic sculpture - illustrating connections between drawing and sculpture. Their focus will be the line: line as mark making, movement through space, mass, and source of energetic expression. Both artists are inspired by natural phenomena, be it biological or terrestrial; they share a quasi-meditative process, and have developed their work over long periods of time, with deep knowledge of the materials they use.
Ariel and Amy befriended each other during an artist residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Japan in 2019. At the beginning of the Pandemic, they initiated a remote online artist residency ‘The Wagashi AIR’, a first for both. Connecting at least weekly, across time difference and distance, between Melbourne and Berlin, occasionally France; they shared the progression of their artworks and ongoing projects, inspired by each other. This remote residency continues to this day. ‘Wandering within an accumulation of short lines’ offers an opportunity for the artists to collaborate once again and bring their connection into the physical realm.

TANIA ROLLOND : IN PLACE
10-24 April 2021

Amy Kennedy : This new work pulls on the thread of an idea I have had for a few years. My intention, to set up specific windows of potential for material and form to linger in unexpected ways. It’s a play between lightness and mass, delicacy and intensity.
Tania Rollond : Every morning I walk through the bush as the day begins - it is quiet, fresh and full of potential, a network of tiny details in constant motion. This is the feeling I hope to embed in the work I make.
